I did the responsible thing and bought a drive with redundancy baked in, only to have the single point of failure die first, and no way of getting my data back. To their credit, the tech says that they have a contract with a data recovery company that will give me a discount if I send them my drives. No thanks, I keep my data private and secure so I can keep it private and secure.

Sending the drives to be recovered by someone else seems antithetical to that policy. Fortunately, I had a cumulative backup in another location that had not been updated for a couple months.
