Yes, I found this very strange. Advanced Gravis GUS411 am not sure what their intent was regarding these patches. Whereas with the Gravis patches, they were distributed freely on their FTP site.

There is very different intent there. Also, it was strange what Roland was claiming copyright on. What they were harping on was the drum samples, which apparently are the same Advanced Gravis GUS411 samples that they later included in some GS modules.

There was some strange law involved that I would have to look up to recall, that granted some sort of retroactive copyright on undeclared works.

The thing is, the drum samples are the most easily replaceable part of the ROM, because there Advanced Gravis GUS411 free drum samples all over the place. Another benefit would be playing MT sequences directly through Timidity as files instead of needing a server program to run all the time. Stupid workaround is stupid: Mpxplay —sct says the following: They perform reliably with older chipsets with normal ISA slots.
